Avia S 199

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Avia S-199 is a post-war product of the Czech aircraft industry based on the Messerchmitt 109 produced by the Czech firm Avia during WW2, After the war the lack of engines forced them to use the Junkers Jumo 211F engine, intended for use on bombers, giving this concept somewhat disappointing performance.
Israel purchased 25 S-199s in 1947, the contract included new aircraft, spare parts and full training of ground and pilot personnel. The planes arrived at the beginning of the Arab-Israeli war in 1948. The plane became notorious for engine problems, frequent gun jams, and even cases where mis-synchronized machine guns destroyed the plane's propeller.

However, despite its problems, it proved to be successful in the early days of the war, not so much because of its quality as it was much inferior to the original Me 109, nor in the fact that it shot down a large number of enemy aircraft, but above all in the fact that it was available where and when it was needed !

The kit

Long time announced product of the Czech manufacturer Eduard in the 1/48 scale has finally hit the market.... Practically still hot off the press, it premiered at the "Plastikova zima " competition at the end of last year 2025.... With the help of my great model maker friends from the model maker club Ikar, I managed to get one of the first examples and as soon as I got it, I got to work!
Standard high quality of production with constant innovation of design and assembly can be seen in this kit as well. The novelty is the label Hybrid because it makes a combination of: plastic and 3D parts with the absence of an PE set. 3D printed parts provide most of the interior parts of the cockpit, the landing gear box, the exhaust, and some smaller details of the antennas and weapons.
